I’m pleased to note that Luther has a new set of fellowships available for entering students (for next fall) who have demonstrated creativity in the arts — particularly in media! The deadline for application is June 1.
As if it were not bad enough that we’re losing Harry Flynn to retirement (and all sorts of worries attend Bishop Nienstedt’s elevation), now the Vatican announces that Bishop Pates (an auxiliary bishop who at least has some pastoral ability) will move to Des Moines. It will be informative to see whom Nienstedt puts in his place…
He refuses to pay out “street money” in Philadelphia. I imagine his campaign will come up with a progressive alternative — building on social networking? funding nonprofit organizing? finding ways to empower poor people? Stay tuned!
