The Union of Concerned Scientists has created a really interesting guide to some of the ways in which scientists who work for or advise the federal government have seen their work manipulated, suppressed and/or distorted. It’s done in the shape of a periodical table, with each element linked to various examples.

Our new team at Luther, working on instructional design, put together a great week of faculty development. During that time they included this page of resources, which I don’t want to lose — hence the reason I’m blogging about it.

I think Glenn Greenwald is very persuasive. And I agree with him when he notes that
It will never stop being jarring that Pulitzer-Prize-winning revelations from the New York Times that the President and the telecom industry were committing felonies for years culminated in the full-scale protection of the lawbreakers and retroactive legalization of the criminality by the “opposition party” which controls the Congress.
That’s why I find it so disheartening that Obama voted with the President on FISA. It’s not enough to make me stop campaigning for him — in fact, it’s now clear we have to redouble our efforts to build a movement that can not only elect him, but pressure him — but it does take some of the joy out of the process for me.
