Tips for learning

PastorPam reflects on what she’s learning about learning, while taking her kids to swim lessons. Great tips in short summary, but read the whole piece:

  • Inspire confidence
  • Train the heck out of your teachers
  • Have a clearly laid out system, but treat every individual like an individual
  • Evaluate like crazy
  • Failure is not an option
  • Believe that this is important — and really fun, too

Rome declares use of Tetragrammaton forbidden

I think this is actually good news, particularly for the relationship of Catholicism with Judaism. Rome has recently declared pronouncing the Tetragrammaton — the four letters used in biblical texts to mark the name of God, often pronounced “Yahweh” in practice — as forbidden. It is already forbidden to speak in Jewish worship (most often people will say “Adonai” instead), but this instruction makes it Catholic practice as well. (Hat tip to the ActiveParishioner)

Faithtrip

Faithtrip is social networking site that has grown out of the recent World Youth Day events in Australia. Like many such sites, it will be interesting to see if it becomes a place to “hang out” or not.
