Saint Somebody

A friend of mine from div school has written a compelling and beautiful novel set in an inner city Catholic high school. He’s taking the leap and making it available online. I hope you’ll check it out. Here’s what I wrote as a “cover” blurb for it:

By the time you’re a few paragraphs into this novel, you’ll feel your heart captured by these kids. A few chapters in, and you won’t be able to put the story down. By the end of the book your faith in kids, the community of the Catholic church (at the grassroots level), and the joy and pain of real learning will be tangible and deep. There is often more truth in fiction, than in the day to day fragments of reality, and this book makes a Christian journey come alive in fresh and compelling ways.

Hillary’s speech

I liked Michelle’s speech more, but I think Sen. Clinton’s speech last night was quite powerful and important. The NYTimes has a great interactive feature with the video of Hillary’s, the text, and an index to useful themes.

Fathers for Good

Here’s another effort, in a long line of such efforts, to find ways to involve men more directly in faith community. This time it’s the Knights of Columbus working on fatherhood challenges.
